June 27th Agenda: Dr. Tiffany Troxler on Climate Change

Herald Tribune: Sarasota, June 14, 2024 rainfall

Why this topic?

SCAN's focus is planning, and planning is inextricable from the realities of climate change - except in parts of Florida (Sarasota) where the words "climate change" are never heard.

If we wish to have a resilient future, a basic understanding of the considerable forces behind rising temperatures and tides is essential. At stake are not just our roads, but public health, safety, the economy and our quality of life.

SCAN's June speaker, Dr. Tiffany Troxler, has trained government experts around the world in climate science. At FIU in low-lying Miami, she studies tides, wetlands, and the various climatological effects of global warming.

Her work on shoreline resilience and how ecosystems respond to sea-level rise has been called "groundbreaking." A key goal is to build climate resilience into our communities where changes in temperature, rising tides, and more pose huge challenges that affect every individual. Dr. Troxler is also on the Board of Audubon Tropical. Her C.V. is here.
