Did the County Administrator misunderstand the question, or the facts?

Sarasota County Administrator Jonathan Lewis gave an overview of how he sees the past couple of years of county actions and challenges. 

Lewis was hired 10 years ago -- before then he was the city manager of North Port.

Lewis smoothly covered several facets of county governance, but when asked about the breach in the dike separating Cow Pen Slough from homes in Laurel Meadows, he grew testy and appeared to either not understand what was asked, or to completely get the facts wrong. He interrupted the question and suggested the questioner and the Herald Tribune were incorrect in their account of the Laurel Meadows flooding, where 84 homes were seriously damaged.

Flooding in Sarasota County is the topic of SCAN's Oct. 24 Meeting

The next SCAN meeting will be at Selby Library on October 24. Laurel Meadows after Debby, August 2024 Three serious storms in the past three months have people asking why flooding occurred in areas that should have had stormwater protection. Nearly 2000 residents have signed a Petition asking the County to study what went wrong when Hurricane Debby flooded inland communities. Egregious "Asks": Three minutes of dynamite from Venice Councilwoman Joan Farrell

Venice City Councilwoman Joan Farrell addressed the Board of Sarasota County Commissioners regarding Pat Neal's proposed 3H Ranch on Wednesday, June 5, 2024. Neal's huge plan for 6700 homes extending south from Clark Road received an absurdly superficial review from the Planning Commission. County staff has issues with the proposal, and advised stipulations, but the appointed Planning Commissioners - the six who actually showed up - recommended approval of the plan with no stips . The Board of County Commissions (BCC) was all set to hear and decide on 3H Ranch on Wednesday, but Neal withdrew the item from the Board agenda.  Farrell, who was elected in November , had prepared a 5-minute presentation (normal for public hearings), but was given just 3 minutes for Open to the Public.
