How we lost local power thanks to the people we elected

Image
One major theme of this excellent Panel Discussion held Dec. 10 in Venice, Florida, is how the people we elected to represent us have in fact been empowering developers. Pat Neal, Wellen Park, and Status of East Manasota Beach Road

Image
The letter below from a resident of Manasota Key presents the argument as to why people there are persuaeded that Pat Neal's desire to open their area to 50,000 Wellen Park residents is not allowed under the current private status of the road. But a developer that calls itself “America’s largest homebuilder” is still carrying on with its plans. D.R. Horton has continued a relentless effort to bring a new housing community to the edge of Celery Fields, now turning to a 1990s state law to challenge the commission’s prior decisions and steer the development forward through court mediation. Dozens of residents and environmentalists are still fighting the proposa...
